I realize some time has passed since the Rat Trap show closed, but I wanted to do a little post show report. First of all, thanks to everyone who came out and supported us. And thanks to everyone that bought some originals and prints. As for the prints, for those who ordered anything I’ll be putting them in the mail this week. Plus I  was blown away with the on line response to some of the pieces. Lot’s of that is due to Ricky Brigante’s Inside the Magic Pod Cast & the Ghostbusters Fans Facebook page. Thank you so much for that exposure. Over all the show was a huge success and we are all stoked to do something again soon. In fact we have the same gallery space reserved for February 2013 and August 2013. The proposed theme for the February show next year is “SteamPOP”. It’s Pop Culture Steam Punk show. It’ll have everything from Star Wars to Back to the Future, and most likely every other nerd property out there. Stay tuned for some call to entry announcements later this year, if you’re interested in showing. The really cool news is we will having this show as part of the Anaheim Art Crawl again for each show. The plan is to get a couple of spots in front of the gallery and set up some booths to expand the show and get more art on the wall.  We learned a lot of stuff from the last show, and having a booth in front was one of them. In August 2012, our time in the space falls on the same weekend as the huge Disney event D23. So we are batting around the idea of having Rat Trap 2. There is endless material and inspiration so that might actually happen.

At the same time as those 2 shows are lined up, I am currently looking for a Gallery Space to finally do a solo show. I have an arsenal of Pop Art that is jonesin’ to find a home somewhere soon. Ideally late August would be good for that, but we will see what actually works out.

Rat Trap is turning into being a big success. If you are in the hood this weekend, we will be open this Weekend, May 19 & 20, Saturday and Sunday, Noon until 5pm. As for my stuff, I had a collection of old and new in this show. I premiered 3 new pieces for this show, all of which I was pretty stoked to have in it. The first one was a painting of everyone’s favorite Cast Member, Maynard. The next was that Ghostbusters/Mansion mash up. And then there is this Gal, a pin up of one of the Park’s Tour Guides. Let’s call her Lily.  I’ve always seen them as the “school girls” of the Park, so it was a natural fit. Hopefully I’m not alone on that thought. I gave her some dorky Disney nerd tats and details that tied to the Park, basically had a lot of fun with it. It’s a mix of acrylic on canvas and graphic design for the text. I sold out of prints from the show of this piece but just reloaded. Let me know if you anyone is interested. $20 bucks each. You can email me or click here. Enjoy.

It was the perfect marriage. Ghosts & Ghostbusting. And if you are doing a pop art tribute to Disneyland, this had to be a part of it. I’m not sure where the idea came from, but I am just surprised it hasn’t been done yet. I’ve wanted to do something with it for a while. Attraction Posters for the Parks have always been one of my favorite things. So are the The Haunted Mansion and Ghostbusters. So it was good times to mash the two up. This piece proved pretty popular at the Rat Trap show last Saturday, I sold out of the prints I had for the night. but good news. There is more where that came from. If you are interested in getting a print Email me at Sam@Samcarterart.com or click here.

13″ x 20″ print goes for $25.

13″ x 20″ stretched canvas giclee $75

18″ x 24″ print goes for $50

18″ x 24″ stretched canvas giclee is $200

Plus tax and shipping. If you want some other size, email me and we’ll figure out a good price. Thanks to all the interest on it, it’s a fun piece. One of my favorites. Hard not to be when it combines my 2 favorite things. Thanks to Ricky from Inside the Magic for the plug. Any new visitors, I hope you check back often, I always try to crank out new art. One of the hardest things about painting is coming up with good idea. So if you have an awesome idea, let me know. So what say you? You like?

RAT TRAP promenade gallery

Not gonna lie, last Saturday’s opening night reception was a lot of fun. If you made it out, hopefully you had a good time too. My apologies about the lack of air conditioning. That is just one of the many learnings from “Fisher Price: My First Gallery”. If you are new to this I’ll recap. The Rat Trap is an unofficial tribute show with 22 artists participating in a Pop Art “celebrity roast” of Orange County’s most famous local hang out, Disneyland. We set up shop for this one at the Promenade Gallery in Anaheim. Although not all the pieces ended up being a jab at Walt’s original Magic Kingdom, everything came out awesome. Thanks to everyone who contributed kick ass art. Thanks to Kelly for letting us know about the space. Thanks to Batchy for being my (life) partner in crime. Thanks to the family and friends who helped bring a little sanity and order to the operation. And thanks to all the visitors who wandered into this experiment we call the Rat Trap. The show was a huge success, if you missed opening night you have a few more chances to check it out. Check the Facebook page for exact dates and times.

This weekend was the opening of Gallery 1988′s “Is This Thing On? 2″ Last year’s was phenomenal, and this year was just as fun. Big thanks to Jensen and Katie for letting me play with the big kids. And good news, my piece sold opening night! And thanks to my Pals that came out, good times. But no more words, I’ll let the pix speak for the night. Show runs until March 31. I insist you go check it out, and maybe buy something. Support the arts yo.

“Gozer the Traveler. He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!”

This is me trying to step it up a notch. Rather than painting, this is a combination of Photoshop and Illustrator. I may never paint again, good thing I just bought a bunch of canvas. No, not really, I just really dig doing this kind of stuff on the ol’ ‘Puter. I’ve wanted to do a painting based of Louis since i cranked out the other 2 Ghostbusters paintings, which can be found in the Gallery section of this site. I suppose this can still be a trio even though it’s in a different medium.

Clark Griswold, the typical American asshole.

This is my 2nd piece based off the National Lampoon Vacation Series, first one was this guy with Marty Moose and the Family Truckster. I didn’t plan on doing one from each series, but eventually it is bound to happen. I almost did something from Xmas Vacation for a Christmas card last year and will probably do it next Christmas. And I may be the only pers0n who actually enjoys Vegas Vacation. Surprisingly very quotable. But as for this for European Vacation, it started out as the whole Griswold family in pig suits, but it slowly morphed into a Super Mario vibe, from when he dressed as a squirrel in part 3. And I knew I wanted to give it a circle of stars from the European flag and this was the end result, surprisingly it all came together. Hope you like it, enjoy.

17″ x 17″ print, $20. Hit me up if interested.

I am excited to officially announce that this May I’ll have some art pieces in a little art show “Rat Trap- The Happiest Gallery On Earth”. Just down the street from the original Magic Kingdom, will be almost a month long tribute/roast Art Gallery featuring original artwork by a group of about 20 artists, inspired by the world famous “Happiest Place on Earth”, Disneyland. This is a totally unofficial show and has no affiliation to the Walt Disney Company, stay tuned for more legal disclaimers as needed. I invite you to come down to the Downtown Anaheim’s very own Promenade Gallery starting May 12 to take a look at a collection of original paintings, sculpture and other pop art inspired by the House of Mouse. Many of us grew up around here under the shadow of the Matterhorn and have had some major influence from Walt’s “little park”. This is our way of having some fun with our love/hate relationship with the place. Look out for a big opening night reception, more info to come as we get closer to the show.

I’ve been meaning to do something based on “Curb” for a long time, and after the marathon that ran on my dvd player this weekend I thought it was time. Is Larry David an asshole? Yes. Does he mean to be? Maybe. I can’t even say he means well. But that’s ok. He is the greatest character on TV since Michael Scott. A comic genius. If you don’t watch the show “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, I highly recommend it. It’s PRETTY GOOD.  PRETTYYYYYY PRETTTTYYYYYYYY PRETTY GOOD.
