Downtown Disney 70th Mural

I’ve been a little busy this past year—and here’s the first of many reasons why! I’m so proud to finally share a mural I created to celebrate Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary.

This piece highlights Downtown Disney as it joins in the milestone celebration. Since the new westside area of DTD features a midcentury modern design, I channeled my inner Mary Blair to create whimsical representations of the shops and restaurants throughout the district. Of course, no one can truly replace Mary Blair—this piece is simply inspired by the kind of magic she might have imagined.

On either side of the mural, you’ll spot subtle nods to both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, with nighttime spectaculars lighting up the sky. I love that the foreground allows the shopping and dining district to shine front and center, while DL and DCA play more of a supporting role—at least in this piece.

To me, Downtown Disney is at its best when it’s alive with people enjoying live music, a Monorail zipping by, and the excitement of guests either beginning or ending their day at the Disneyland Resort. Hope you all enjoy this piece, it was an honor to create. It is located at the far west security check-point entrance to DTD, just south of the incredible Din Tai Fung restaurant.
